Looking for an exclusively South African site for all your online dating needs? Welcome to DatingSA.com. It’s got an easy login and lets you add your home and mobile phone numbers (if you’re brave enough) as well as your suburb, but they’re all optional extras, so you won’t have to worry about your privacy. It’s not the prettiest dating site around, but it’s thorough and goes through all your interests, choices and needs before letting you loose on the daters around you. Before you even get to that point, however, you have to verify your email. Mildly irritating.

This site has a wide variety of daters including those who are looking for fun, one night stands, long term relationships and more. You can set your searches and personal preferences according to these criteria – because not everybody’s into having an affair, ya know – and even check out potential honeys via ethnicity, build, hair colour, lifestyle and more. The site is pretty user friendly, but you HAVE to fill in your entire profile before you can do anything. And we mean anything. No messages, no searching, no nothing. Fill it in or you aint gonna date nobody. Hey, even if you do fill it in you might not be all that successful. Why? Because you have to subscribe before you can chat yo anybody. Boo. And there are some pretty cool chat rooms here.

On the positive side, the privacy is pretty good, with some healthy safety tips for the dating newbie. You can block and ignore, and report daters who make you uncomfortable. So the stalker vibes will be at a minimum here. Good stuff.  The search methods are also intense. You can search via: history, favourites, fans, mutual fans, popular profiles, new profiles, logged in members, modified profiles, gallery, birthdays, name, keywords and more. All this adds up to potential future love or fun… but, it’ll cost ya.

Overall, a good site but it comes with a price tag and a few annoying nuances which prevent you from getting down to the nitty gritty straight away. Check out our heart rating and break down for more info on this online dating site.

Let’s break it down:

Number of Members: Between 20,000 and 25,000 profiles created.
Instant Messaging: Yup. You have an inbox and Conversations tab.
Video Uploads: Nope.
Match Questions: Nope.
Privacy: You can block people and report abuse. It’s pretty privacy conscious.
Picture Uploads: Yup. But you need to subscribe to add more.
Cost: You can subscribe for a package between R100 and R180. If you do, you’ll finally be able to message someone.
Email Notifications: Yup. Select what you’d like to be notified for.

Drawbacks:

You have to confirm your email address before you continue, which puts a whole damper on your search if you’re looking for a quick peek around.
