Come one, come all to the AfroIntroductions online dating site. Though this site is aimed more at individuals of the African persuasion, it’s open to all who wish to sign up. It’s more about introducing the population to African individuals, than being totally exclusive to black daters. That said, there are a wealth of hot honeys and handsomes on site, which lends itself to some great fun.

Logging in is a pleasure, as the sign up is quite simple and the questions are wonderfully thorough. You’ll be asked everything from your eye colour, to your height, to your weight – no evasion here, ladies – to your religion and lifestyle choices. This is, in essence, how the site matches you up to those singles out there. You don’t have to add a picture on site, but it’s always a better idea as it’ll land you at least 10 times more views. The site layout is a bit clogged up and complex and navigation is more of an adventure than an easy option, with plenty of side bars and dropdown menus to explore.

That said, the search options are quite advanced, which is a good thing since this is an international site and may have less South Africans than you’d like to see. You can search by cupidtags – specific tags members use on their profiles to define themselves – and find a good match for your type via this method. Expressing your interest is easy enough: you simply ‘favourite’ the people you like. There are loads of members to explore, but you’re not able to interact with them unless you upgrade your account. And therein lies the catch.

Overall, this online dating site is a good choice for those who want to explore international and local talent. But, you have to pay the price if you want to interact.

Let’s break it down:

Number of Members: 830 000 accounts created.
Instant Messaging: Yup. But only if you upgrade.
Video Uploads: Nope
Match Questions: Nope. The match questions here are more about what interests you. You select your interests from a list and are matched up according to those preferences.
Privacy: You can switch off your profile anytime you like, which helps with those awful stalker vibes – provided they come your way. 😉
Picture Uploads: Yup. You’re encouraged to add many.
Cost: Upgrading gives you more access to the features on site – like sending unlimited messages to anyone you like – and will set you back anywhere in the range of 300 to 800 Rand, depending on which plan you select.
Email Notifications: Yup. Like many other sites, you’re able to select which notifications you’d like to receive. i.e. views or messages.

Drawbacks:

– You can only do such much without upgrading
– The site is kind of ugly to be honest and a bit complex when it comes to navigation
– You have to verify your profile before you can do anything
